I realize this is an animal science class but the idea of subjecting a cat to this procedure with no anesthesia and especially in front of his students is incredibly disturbing. I wouldn't want someone with such bad judgement teaching my kid.
What this teacher did is wrong on so many levels, but two things I have to question. (1) What exactly was this 'teacher' trying to teach his students?.... what was the point? And (2) it was stated that 'the castration of the cat wasn't illegal'. Really? It's legal for someone who isn't a licensed vet to perform surgery on an animal in the state of Georgia. If that's the case, then Georgia needs to take a serious look at it's animal cruelty laws.
This local school board needs to re-evaluate their standards for the teachers that work them. No way they should allow him to be reinstated.
Georgia has some very backwards ways and laws. I lived there for over 30 years and it never ceased to amaze me.
I lived in Savanna for 6 mo. in 1969 while in the Army. Didn't care much for their liquor laws, but other than that I liked it there. Took a while to get used to being teased about my northern accent though.

Couldn't agree with you more!!! Wrong and disturbing on so many levels!
I would just castrate him without anesthesia, and see how he likes it.
Yup, I agree with that one! Does it ever amaze you the sick things that people can dream up to do to animals? I sometimes think I must be in a nightmare.
absolutely horrifying. I'm a long-time Georgia resident too and I must say I am ashamed to be a "Georgia girl".
I recently read this story about some deranged woman who performed a C-section on her mastiff dog SANS anesthesia, even though she wasn't far from an on-call kind of vet, who probably understood that dogs sometimes give birth at strange hours.
Disgusting.
