Hi,
Our cat , Paco, needs to have his eye removed. We were all set to pay the $2500 quote given by his opthamologist. However, after checking on line we are seeing a lot of enucleation surgeries that people paid $250-$800. These surgeries were several years ago and it did not say what part of the country they were in. Reading online it says that this is not a complicated surgery and can be done at the vet office. So, has anyone had this surgery done recently, what part of the country and how much did it cost? We are in Chicago and will pay whatever we need to for our guy, but we don't want to pay 4 times as much if it is not necessary. Thank you.

One of our cats had this done in December 2015. It was a pretty simple surgery and our cat had no complications. The surgery took place at the vets office and was somewhere around $600. This was done in the Nashville TN area.
Why does it need to be done? Has it had a chance to heal? There are herbs that specifically regrow tissue and bone. If there is pain, I would give the cat homeopathic Arnica.
In order to heal the cat has to be on the best quality diet/home prepared balanced raw food diet though and the cat should be taking herbs to clean out his lymphatic/immune system as well as the ones to grow new cells and tissue. I would be doing this whether the cat has the surgery or not.

In our case it was glaucoma. We had no choice. Not everything will heal with eastern or western medicine.
This isn't a cat but a small dog. About a year ago my parents' shih tzu developed a tumor in her eye and needed the eye removed. It cost them around $800, and this included sending some off for a biopsy (it was benign). They had it done at their local (small) vet clinic, in NE Wisconsin.
We've been seeing an animal eye specialist for many years for our oldest cat, Benny. The price you were given sounds like what a specialist would charge.
It can't hurt to get a couple of other estimates.
