I like Fran Drescher as well in "The Nanny.) She's the closest to Lucille Ball in that respect.

She was absolutely the best......I lived to watch I Love Lucy back then....it was my favorite show. So clever and realistic too...some of the arguments they got into on the show....so funny. Her later shows were funny too but the first one...

Comedy is supposedly more difficult to pull off than drama etc. So then Lucille Ball was one heck of an actress! I saw her not long ago in an old movie, did not catch the name....but since the focus was not on comedic antics, it was more obvious that she was quite beautiful.

But Lucy used her acting skills more than her beauty in her trade and so to me she is a true award winner!

I loved all the episodes, but there is one that stands out, where she was willing to do everything for Ricky after he came back from Hollywood...

A satirical version of idolatry...

The fact that my " way cool" 17 year old son will sit and laugh hysterically at Lucy. Ricky, Fred and Ethel, here in the year 2011, says it all.

Lord Love Lucy, may she RIP. Love her!

I also love the late Jackie Gleason. I watch clips of them both on YouTube from time to time.

Jackie Gleason was a hoot as well!

Not all comedy from that era is effective today, but Lucy, Jackie, and I got to add Don Knotts, can still make a person fall out. Timeless.
