Classy, intelligent, sophisticated, with that great Nordic look of hers she was great to watch. Of course she had a few dark spots in her past like running out on her husband and kid and getting pregnant by a dircetor in Italy. But that aside she was really something else.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Ingrid Bergman in 1971. She was in a play in London
called Captain Brassbounds Conversion. I watched her in the matinee, then waited outside
the theatre hoping to meet her. She came out the stage door, and we had a chat. Really
nice lady. We talked about the play, then I mentioned Casablanca. She laughed and said,
she did'nt know whether she was going to go off with Bogart or Heindrid because they were
messing about with the script as they were filming it. She was the first old time movie star I
met. She did'nt disapoint me, she was just as I imagined she would be.

Ingrid Bergman is my all-time favorite movie star. I have several of her movies and "Inn Of The Sixth Happiness" is my favorite, after "Casablanca".

What Ingrid Bergman did in the 1940's-50's was scandalous for that era. Today no one would even blink at that kind of behavior. How times change.

That is true. It did'nt help that Ingrid had played nuns and such in films. She projected a
certain wholesomeness in films, so what happened in her life in the late 40s scandalised
the public. While I was talking to her back in 1971 that same quality came over in real
life. I was very impressed with her, she seemed a really nice person. I was just a kid, and
she probably had somewhere to go before the evening show, but she took the time to
talk to me.

You mean what the stars of yesteryear pretend to have.

^^^ Yes, that is true to an extent. Some of the old time film stars had very humble
backgrounds. People like Clark Gable and such. But, they were trained at the old film
studios, places like MGM, how to behave with, and in public. So, the three old time
stars I met, were all very gracious, and nice to talk to.

That's true. The stars of mid-20th century were usually under contract to a movie studio and they were expected to conduct themselves with a certain amount of decorum while in public.

She got on my nerves. She cried in every movie, and her voice irritated me (especially when she got upset).
