LOS ANGELES — Ernest Borgnine, the beefy screen star known for blustery, often villainous roles, but who won the best-actor Oscar for playing against type as a lovesick butcher in "Marty" in 1955, died Sunday. He was 95.
His longtime spokesman, Harry Flynn, told The Associated Press that Borgnine died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with his family by his side.
I'm about through with my three day marathon with my Andy Griffith DVD's. Soon I'll be starting in on my McHale's Navy DVD's.
It is indeed sad news to hear. But Borgnine not only lived a long life but he lived a full life as well! As a kid I would always make sure I'd get home from baseball practice as McHale's Navy was on Tuesday nights at 7:30 on ABC. It was one of my favorite shows along with the Andy Griffith show. Needless to say, Borgnine was involved in many other productions; I think of his performance in the 1956 movie "Marty"; the 1972 version of "Poseidon Adventure". And his work in the tv show "Airwolf". I'd seen him being interviewed on cable shows from Larry King to Bill O'Reilly. What a great attitude he had when he was interviewed! And in his 90's yet! He'll be missed.
R.I. P.my favorite movie is Marty. I was watching it the other day saying to myself I have this feeling he is going to pass on soon.
