Los Angeles Times.com: Steve Martin and his wife have a (nearly) new baby

Steve Martin is a new dad — and also darned good at keeping a secret.
The 67-year-old actor, writer, comic and banjo player welcomed his first child with wife Anne Stringfield, 41, his rep confirmed to People on Wednesday, providing no other details.
But don't go thinking that the child — gender unknown to the public — is an Aquarius. According to the New York Post's Page Six, which first broke the news, the wee one was born way back in December.
"They’ve had a baby, and how they kept it a secret nobody knows," a source told the paper. "Steve’s very private."
The couple has apparently been spotted out with the child near their L.A. home.
"I played fathers so many times, it's like being one," Martin said in a 2003 interview when he was promoting the film "Cheaper by the Dozen," about a family with 12 kids. "I've had children of every age. And like I say, I get to do everything but the dirty work. Their parents have to take them home and deal with all that."
This time, Steve, the dirty work's all yours. Enjoy.
67? I realize that Steve Martin has more money than God, so he can afford a platoon of nannies, cooks, drivers, and anything else under the sun in the way of support. But if I were 67 and my wife strolled in and told me she was with child, I would calmly drive down to the local pawn shop, buy a Saturday night special, and shoot myself.
And here's the thing. A child deserves to have a father who is somewhat engaged in his upbringing. Who wants to be a senior in high school and have an 85-year-old dad?
My brother is kind of in the same boat. He's always been the guy who spent his 20s, 30s, and 40s globetrotting and doing whatever. If he wanted to jet off to Palm Springs at a moment's notice, he could. Then he and his wife decided to adopt a new born when he was 52. Now, at 54, he is exhausted all the time.
Hey, raising children is young person's work. Our first was born when I was 32 and our third was born when I was 37. Huge difference in my energy level raising the two.
I read this article too and thought, a 26 year age difference?! Whoa. Even though me and my guy have a 17 year age difference, I doubt I would've ever ventured beyond that. But, I'm happy for them; I mean, it's their life. If they're happy together and in love, then why not? I just kind of feel sorry for their child. When he or she is 10 years old, Steve is going to be more like his or her grandfather than a dad; and when he or she is in their 20s, he may not even be alive anymore.
A side note: I've never seen Steve with any color hair other than white lol. He'd look so weird with brown hair!
I'm 28, dad was 55 and mom was 41 when they had me. I didn't get picked on, but when I would go on field trips, my classmates would ask me if my dad was my grandfather. I can't imagine what this kid will go through, facing the real possibility that the child might not have a father when its in its teen years.
