I didn't realize he was 82! In my mind he's still young and kicking butt.

Me too. I recall seeing Billy Jack back when it came out here in Fort Worth, way back when. I had not realized that it was the second movie of four (according to one article, the fourth movie never made it out).

Still a pretty good movie, years later. I liked the scene where the evil red-neck father was saying to his son (who had driven his Corvette into a lake) "So, he (Billy Jack) just told you to drive your car into the lake, and you did it?"

Strange coincidence: while reading about Mr. Laughlin yesterday I started thinking of the song "One Tin Soldier". Last night, my wife and I pulled out a DVD set of Sonny and Cher shows from 1971. In the first episode, Cher sang "One Tin Soldier" (to an animation of the theme of the song).

The Billy Jack series of movies still stir up debate decades after their release. Some people take the character to heart and see him as a role model. Others think the movies are examples of "So Bad, It's Good" filmmaking.

I've only seen the first of the series ("Born Losers"). I'd have to put it in the "So Bad, It's Still Bad" category.

But that doesn't mean that it's not funny and still a hoot to watch, particularly when bikini babe on the scooter turns to the "dreaded bikers" and asks, "Got any amphetamines?"

So did I. I mean I know those movies were quite awhile ago, but for some reason I pictured him much younger.
