That article was excellent! I had not known, for instance, that Mr. Wallach was a founding member of the Actor's Studio. Indeed, while I knew he was a great actor, the article makes it clear that he was one of the giants of both screen and stage.
To me, he will always be "Tuco" from The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.
It appears that Eli Wallach lived a full life, contributing to the stage and screen well into his 90s.
Whenever his name was mentioned, immediately the role that was my favorite and best recalled comes to mind. That role was from the classic western "The Magnificent Seven" as Calvera, the bandit chief, perhaps my favorite screen villain ever.

Strangely enough, I had only watched The Magnificent Seven, for the very first time, several weeks ago (how I got to age 59 without having seen it bewilders me and my wife).
Anyway, while watching Eli in Seven, I realized that the director of Good etc must have seen the movie and realized that Eli was perfect for Tuco. Of course, as Tuco, Eli brought a little bit of humor to the role.
Reading the list of movies, stage appearances and television shows that Mr. Wallach appeared in over the decades, he truly was one of the most underappreciated actors of all times (award-wise; his talent was certainly recognized by the producers/directors, hence his being cast in so many roles).
To me, he will always be "Tuco" from The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.

And proving that an actor's ethnicity doesn't necessarily have to match the ethnicity of the role.
RIP. Mr. Wallach was a fine actor. He seems to have been an adventurous man, very dedicated to his art.
Condolences to his family. Will miss the likes of Leon B Little.
