I remember watching Bruno Sammartino as a kid sitting in front of a smallish black and white television. Watching him come to the rescue or battling Johnny Valentine or Gorilla Mansoon. There was an energy with him and his appearances that even Hulk Hogan, the Undertaker or John Cena were never able to replicate.
There was no artificiality about him. No steroids or drugs. You knew this guy could be a brawler in any bar room fight.
Always the good guy that I could recall.
He was THE star in those glory days. The Beatles of the of the wrestling world. No one could compete with him and to this day no one still can.
Bruno led a good life. Stand up guy all around. And.. While it's sad that he passed.. It's nice to realize that a former pro wrestler CAN live a good, long life.
