Frankly, its just plan arrogance to NOT give Uncle Sam what your supposed to. I think some people get it in their head the rules don't apply to them. I know my adopted brother went through this on a much smaller scale, he was an independent contractor and decided Uncle Same wouldn't miss 8 grand he owed them. Well they did and they took him to court.
What a strange defence he put up - he didn't see why he owned the taxes and uncle sam had to prove he owed such things! Surely a multi-millionaire could get good tax advice?
Three years in the slammer though... how much money are we talking about here for him to be punished for that long? I could probably go out... drink and drive, beat up my neighbor... kick my dog... run over some people at a farmers market and get less time in prison that he will.
And maybe he can take some acting classes while he's in prison. His "performance" in court wasnt too good!
