They are both important comedians in their own right.
There is no comparison because they are of different era's,age, education and background.
Bill had class but was still funny. Redd's humor was more 'urban'.
Each one was entertaining and hilarious.
Both guys are/were very funny, each in his own way. I voted for Bill Cosby because the man is a class act. He can be hysterically funny without being obscene. He is sophisticated, very well-educated and from what I have heard a genuinely great guy. I think Cosby appealed to a wider audience because the adults find him funny AND he was very "kid friendly".
Red Foxx was also a very funny man. His television show was great! His stand up comedy was a bit too much for my parents to allow me to see more than 5 minutes before I was banished from the room. I think Red Foxx's comedy was aimed at an adult audience.
Each spectacular in his own way... like others have said it is comparing apples and oranges.
This was a tough one. I love them both but they're very different in comedic styles. As an individual I'd pick Cosby. Funny, clever, clean, classy.
However, "Sanford & Son" remains one of my favorite comedy shows, more so than Cosby's. When I watch a "Cosby" episode I tend to fixate on the 80's styles and decor ~ which is pleasing in it's own retroactive way. But "Sanford" is a classic for ALL times.
I will agree that TV show-wise, Sanford and Son held up much better in the long run...after 30-odd years the show is still funny, the Cosby show kinda as somebody else posted seems so 80's dated, and I think it ran for too long and with all the changes they made with the cast over the years just seemed to drag and become uninteresting.
