I'm looking to get a new phone number, however every carrier that I have talked to (including my own) won't let me choose my digits. I don't want to choose all the digits, just the last four digits.
Does anyone have experience with this or could point me in the right direction?

In this modern day and age, the cellular provider will have a list of available #'s that you can choose but no guarantee the last 4 digit combination will be on that list.

You can try using Google Voice. Depending on area code it usually gives you a pretty good list to chose from. Establish the number on Google Voice and then port it into your carrier....

When I got my first cellphone, T-Mobile let me pick the last four digits.

Yeah I tried that, my choice of last four digits is not available.

I think I may have stumbled on to something. My landline carrier and ATT gives a list of numbers, I guess if I go down to the store in person, I can finagle some time to get the number.

Phone number update:

My cable carrier (Cox) originally said they could not change the number. I called again to get another operator (phone tech). He tried to look for the digits in the database of available numbers, took a couple of minutes, end result was a big NO.

So, I then went straight to the landline carrier, CenturyLink (formerly Embarq/Sprint). Went inside the store and they looked it up and within 5 minutes, found the digits I wanted. I must say, I called another office that CenturyLink had and they had given me the runaround of yes, but no, maybe, waiting 2 days last week (over the phone). But this time I went to the store physically and got the number!

I guess, if want that number for my cell phone, i could port it? (landline to cell phone) ?

Curious why you want to choose the digits? If it is for business purposes, I can understand. If not, then what for?

Yes for business. Something easy to remember.

We all remember 1-800-FLOWERS right?

3000-TOM, 866-GOOD etc..

I did with Google Voice. Area code and exchange were given but the last four I was able to choose... the same as my street number.

Do you tell them it is for a business phone? I know that "easy" numbers, those that are simple and/or easy to remember (usually used by businesses) are considered premium numbers.

However, if you find something on Google Voice, you can port your number from Google Voice for a fee of $3 (the fee is waived if you ported your number to Google Voice).
