You download the Starbucks app. Then you sign up for an account with your email address. Then you load it with money.

You can load it with a credit card, debit card, PayPal, or with an Starbucks gift card you bought/already had.

Then when you go into Starbucks you place your order and have your smartphone on with the Starbucks app open. There is a button in the app that you tap on that says "Pay". When you do this a bar code pops up on your smart phone screen. You then hold your phone up with the bar code facing out to their scanner, that scans your barcode.

Then their scanner beeps and you are done. Your total on the main screen of the application that shows how much money you have left will be updated. You can have the card auto-reloaded after it goes below a certain amount, or you can manually re-load it.

Hope that helps!

Thank for your quick answer, but unfortunately, I'm doing a research for a class. I need to find out how Starbucks mobile payment work in term of the background system. When customers pay with Starbucks app, what are the transactions which involve for the system to accept the mobile payments.

on cnet they mentioned something about uploading a picture of yourself to their site so they can verify is you ?
the person who demoed it last said the cashier was confused and they held the line up. it's probably more efficient now.
