Can anyone tell me how Charleston locals feel about outlanders coming in and opening up their small businesses/shops? I saw that last summer Charleston was made #3 in best cities to do so, but what the city may support and what the city's people may support can be two different things.

The 10 Best Places to Start a Small Business.

There's no shop by this name. I'm referring to someone not local moving to Charleston and opening up their own shop.

Oh oh oh! Sorry! I'm thinking fishing, motorcycles..ha ha.
There are so many great great small businesses in and around Charleston. The best I can tell and from everywhere that I have lived (New England, NC)..I couldn't think of a better place to start or bring a small business.

Yeah, that's what it seems, but my question is how inviting are the locals to someone moving in from elsewhere and setting up shop?
Where we presently live (a small area in Brooklyn), the locals tend to turn snob when someone from outside the neighborhood comes around and opens up a shop here. Not nice.

People love local businesses here. Half the people in the area are from somewhere else so... what does that say? I think as long as you assimilate with the locals you'll be fine. If you bring attitude and bash the south when you come, you'll probably be back in Brooklyn before you know it. You'll have to learn to relax and slow down here. What kind of business are you thinking about opening? That may help us answer you better.

Edit to add: I thought you were talking about some kind of fishing/outdoorsy shop too

Hee hee, sorry again. Maybe I should call it that!
I'm Southern just coming back after too long in Brooklyn. So, I'm ready for the slow down and the friendliness.
It would be a speciality retail shop. Please forgive me, I want to keep the details a little under wraps right now as I think it may be an untapped market.
