Hello! We are coming down this weekend to finally look at houses, for real this time! One of the houses we are considering is in Park West on the marsh/tidal creek. While this, at first thought, seemed appealing to me, after further consideration I started to wonder about the 'wildlife' that the realtor speaks of in the listing. Does anyone have any experience with living on a marsh/tidal creek? Are there any drawbacks to living on a marsh or tidal creek? Thanks!
You biggest issues will be gnats and mosquitos. I would always recommend a screened in porch. The "No-See-Ums" as we call them can be a big pain... Other than that, depending on how salty the creek is (how far inland) you may see a gator or two, but that really depends on area, Park West won't see many gators.
It's the Charleston dream. I prefer marsh views over ocean views.
The tidal creeks aren't bad for mosquitoes actually as they don't prefer water that is salt/brackish and cycles as much as these. Now the marshy areas that hold water for long periods of time, that's a little different.
Most of the wildlife people speak of are desired. Like birds, crabs, fish, turtles, etc.
The only gators you'll see in PW are in the ponds... and they're all well known.
Thanks for the responses!! My biggest concern would be snakes. I don't mind the occasional snake, but we used to live in a neighborhood that had a lot of undeveloped tree-d areas and our neighbors kept finding snakes in their houses. I love crabs, turtles and birds! I've already resigned myself to fighting Mosquitos. But you guys are getting me excited to see this house! ;-)
IsNull, that's great news! Thanks for posting! Do you like living in that area of PW?
