So glad to see that Spero got Best New Restaurant! The food is absolutely amazing, the prices are great, and the owners are the best people you could ever hope to know. GO THERE NOW!!
These lists are always interesting, but it's hard to trust the results. You can basically rig it if a few employees of a place just sit around making new email accounts and voting a bunch of times.
They have a category for everything imaginable too. Holy cow!

My neighborhood won for best neighborhood & I'm fairly convinced its because the neighborhood President literally contacted every single person and the businesses on line imploring them to vote. I like my little area of town but compared to a couple of the downtown areas, Old Village, the beaches... no we are not the top of the heap in Charleston. I can only imagine someone cruising into the neighborhood expecting Greenwich Village, Mayberry or even some artsy enclave only to see a fairly pedestrian looking anytown neighborhood.
Our eye doc, vet and dentist all send emails asking their patients to vote for them. Some even enter you in a sweepstakes to win a prize. Well, the dog can't vote , but you get the idea.
The dentist has since lost me as a patient since I haven't been able to fully open my mouth since my last visit.
The "Best" isn't necessarily the BEST. They are just good marketers.

Yeah, but there's no better anecdotal way for a city publication to do this kind of thing. The idea is your dentist should be good enough that his clients are willing to go to bat for him.
