We are looking to relocate from Connecticut and are researching South Carolina Coast, Georgia Coast and maybe Northern Florida. We are nearing our 60s. We are looking for single family homes with atleast 1/2 acre. We are looking to spend approx $200,000 for a home. We want an area that welcomes people from the north. Not in the hustle and bustle but now too far.....Charleston itself might me too pricy and touristy. Conway...nahhhhh. Myrtle beach too touristy...any suggestions or comments on outskirts of these areas is greatly appreciated.
You should reconsider your desire for at least 1/2 acre. First of all, near the coast and large parcels are mutually exclusive, especially in your price range. You won't get both. Second of all.....who's going to take care of a lawn that big ??
When thinking about the Georgia Coast, there's not a whole lot of "there" there. Unless you can get right on the Oceanfront you'll find that corner of the state to be populated by gators and skeeters.
And Northern Florida is Jacksonville -- which is basically Southern Georgia.
If you re-think your need for a large homesite, and increase your budget to about $250K and you may have a match here along the Carolina Coast.
Actually you can find that on James Island even depending on what you want in the way of a house/neighborhood. Johns Island is a possibility too. You might find something out by Hollywood as well but the drive to a beach would be longer. Still under 45 mins is possible though.
A house on a half acre doesn't seem like a large lot. Why would it be harder to care of a lot in this area?
