Okay, I don't claim to be a country girl but don't laying chickens lay eggs regardless of roosters being there? I thought those were the ones we ate and that it takes the roosters to fertilize it .

You're right, Janipoo, the rooster is only needed to fertilize the eggs (and to strut around looking important).
