The governor will make the job announcement at 11 am in Charlotte & at 2 pm in Kings Mountain.

The Charlotte announcement will be at the Charlotte Chamber office in Uptown. Jobs announcement today in Charlotte - CharlotteObserver.com (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/11/15/1840569/jobs-announcement-today-in-charlotte.html - broken link) Anyone have speculation on what it will be?

The Kings Mountain announcement is probably the server farm based on the location which was published in the Gaston Gazette & Shelby Star. Gov. Thanks.

Yeah, that's it. I found it at 11 am, but didn't think anyone was interested, so didn't post it.

I'm glad Charlotte is getting something. I just wish that the powers that be had used their stimulus money as an incentive to help bring in some more jobs. Heck, 5 or 10 permanent jobs would have beat the heck out of what they did with it.

WCNC is the 1st to list the details on the Kings Mountain announcement. Information that has been leaking out was that it would be a server farm under Infocrossing, a division of Wipro. Supposedly it would be about 50 jobs.

Infocrossing is correct, but it will be a data center employing under 20 people. Just the same, it's putting a building to use & will put a lot more construction people back to work. Supposedly, the company in Atlanta that owns the land is working on a second company.

ETA: The Shelby Star finally came through with something. http://www.shelbystar.com/news/sent-51486-governor-town.html (broken link)

The Shelby Star has put together a more extensive article on the data center in Kings Mountain.

Someone wondered, in another thread, what this has to do with Charlotte. First & foremost, is is providing more construction jobs. The officials are currently in talks with other companies about data centers, etc. If someone came to Charlotte to work in housing constuction & has been out of work, there are construction projects in & near Kings Mountain. Driving 30 miles for work beats having to sell out & move on.

Gaston, Lincoln, & Cleveland counties have been hit hard by mill closures. One of the Cleveland County officials stated in this link that this is going to help relieve the tax burden here. When they can fill this ~250 acre site with data centers, this will not only help with the tax burden but it will also help to attract other businesses. This is how the stimulus money was supposed to work.
