Possible tornado on ground, heading from Gastonia/Belmont area. Concern for path heading towards Charlotte or towards UNC-C campus - especially if folks are getting in their cars and heading North (after Speed Street, for ex).

Gonna be crossing 85 in a few minutes.

Pls contact any friends/family who are outside. There appears to be a wall cloud; this could be very serious.

Text your friends and get 'em moving indoors to safety.

TORNADO WARNING MEANS a tornado has been spotted or is in formation. This is not a WATCH - it is a WARNING.

Hey Ani!

We've been having a rip-roaring thunderstorm in Kings Mountain. It looks to be worse in the direction of Cherryville. N/NW when looking out my front window.

This storm is very long - formed well into GA/SC.

What concerns me is - we don't have sirens here as folks do in the midwest. When there is a WARNING there, people immediately head to the basement, no questions asked.

Here, the majority of people are not even aware when a warning is issued - and those of us who do know about it just continue about our business. We don't immediately head to a safe room, basement, interior room, stairwell, etc. as we would in the midwest. This is how folks get injured or killed - b/c they don't take action. Yeah, it is a pain in the tookus to take my laptop to the downstairs guest bathroom while waiting to see what happens . . . but at least I won't be caught off guard if my house gets a spankin' from high winds. Flying glass is BAD!

I have been through numerous warnings in the basement - and most were sounded even tho no tornado came near our house. But I have also been in the basement when a tornado passed right over our house (didn't touch down, thank goodness!)

Better safe than sorry . . .

SB: stay safe! Hopefully, this storm will wander over us and fizzle without anyone getting injured.

Yes - this particular warning has been cancelled, but the storm is not over. Stay alert - keep that weather radio on.

Really strong wind and some thunder just passed here in Ballantyne. A friend called from Atlanta and they had couple hours of rain is the early evening. Hope we get a little rain here, we sure could use some water to cool off this past week heat.
