I am living in an apartment complex that was brought out by a new company. I put in an application to a newer apartment complex. Well, the apartment complex I live in now, REFUSE to give the other apartment complex a rental history. The new apartment manager said they fax them the form 17 times and she spoke to my present apartment manager and she was nasty to her on the phone. I went to talk to the manager and she refuse to fax it over saying that its not in their policy to give out rental history even though its my information! The new apartment manager said she will hold it for 30 days. What can I do to get them to release my information to the other place I want to move into? I am a good tenant and I pay my rent on time every month on the 1st. My lease is up in November even though I have not signed a new lease with them but is living under my old lease agreement from the previous owner.

Gotta agree hear. Time to teach the office personnel a lesson. Customer service in the apartment rental business has gone to crap. All it takes is 5 minutes to respond to a fax request.
did you pay by check? show all your cancelled checks, and a copy of the lease showing the due date. that should satisfy a new landlord.
Great advice. You beat me to it. Its not your information, its THEIR information. Your information is the canceled checks and copy of lease.
Unfortunately the apartment complex has no obligation to release this just like yr employer has no obligation to release eployment info to the outside world. However, this is professional courtesy done by most landlords so if they continue to do it they will not garner any friends at the Apartment Assoc.
They HAVE to realease it....I used to be a leasing consultant , I filled out tons of thise forms!! Its your information!!! You could show them the voided check, but still they have no right to withhold your info. They have to tell the community if they will rerent to you or not!
What is the name of the company and complex failing to provide the information? There's no problem with you providing this information to people who read this forum AND it will let potential renters avoid ever doing business with these people. This is nothing more than messing with you because you want to move out. Your cancel checks and lease agreement should satisfy the new company when they know the problem you are having with your current landlord. If not, shop another complex - now.
