I just wanted to give a shout out to Charlotte for having such a well supported Thanksgiving tradition. I also wanted to let the new comers to this great city know that 10 am Thankgiving Day; uptown Charlotte is the place to be.
Charlotte’s Belk Carolinas’ Carrousel Parade has been held since 1947 as one of the premier Thanksgiving events in the South. With about 100,000 spectators on the ground and nearly 200,000 tuning in on the local CBS affiliate (WBTV), this is the fourth largest Thanksgiving parade in the United States. ^^^Show your local pride, enjoy the season, and don't forget to come out. For those of us on the southside of town, light rail is the best way into uptown during this event. For others, take a bus; it's worth it (trust me on this one).
They've really done great things with this parade the past few years. Its more of a production now, and not just floats and bands going down the street.
I remember standing in front of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church on South Blvd back in the day waiting for the Carousel Parade to come by to see my sister twirling her baton. And of course, when you see the Santa Claus float, you knew it was then end of the line. It no longer takes that route from Tryon to Morehead to S Blvd.
Sorry, it was unwatchable the one time I tuned in and the sparse 'crowd' affirms my opinion. Do they give handouts to the attendees as a draw, seems so.

If you like parades, this is one to check out in person (not on TV). I usually stand on 3rd Street just to avoid the heavier crowds on Tryon. My guess is that you would like the Tryon Street foot traffic (if you are short, get there early for a good view).

Why would I make the effort to attend a parade that is unwatchable on TV? The TV cameras don't lie, the 'foot traffic' is 2 people deep, sometimes, making a good view for all if there was something to see. If your idea of a parade is to see the local politicians and on air TV news people of the channel covering the parade sitting in fancy cars or NASCAR cars but no NASCAR drivers and quirky street 'entertainers' not related to anything in the Thanksgiving spirit mixed in with High School 'beauty queens' and 'marching bands', all spread out at 50 yard intervals to make the parade last as long as it does then the #4 ranked parade is for you. For me I'll stick with the tried and true Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Isn't the #4 ranked parade aired on tape AFTER the Macy's parade is over, wonder why?

Not gonna argue with you on this one; that goes against the holiday spirit. Enjoy watching the Macy's parade on tv. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
