I wonder how decentralizing the Charlotte Mecklenberg Schools will help reporting and tracking of students. After reading the article below I wonder if a cut back in people will improve things or make them worse. Those involve in report the numbers in the first article (if they are still here) should have some explaining to do.

2004-05 SCHOOL YEAR
Report: CMS left out 86% of cases
37,688 suspensions left out; district blames reporting rules changes

After reading article above one has to question wheter the numbers in the article below are accurate.

11/28/06: CMS suspensions drop by 10%
POLICY REFORMS BRING GREATEST DECLINE IN EARLY GRADES

Can't imagine that 10% reduction number has any basis in reality, given this update today (86% of suspensions not initially reported).

Sounds like CMS has some whoppers of problems and I feel pity for the people in charge of managing them, decentralised or no (as the debate rages on).

Yet another school district (CMS) has learned 'zero tolerance' is a crap way to motivate humans. Shame they had to learn this the hard way, though (as the human behaviour science data has said this for decades).

'a lot of kids who are involved in gang activity'? Yikes.

Hell no! If I live in Ballantyne, Huntersville, or any other suburban schools, why would I want kids to be bused in from West Charlotte, or North Tryon to my kids school?
