Tenant landlord- security deposit: Which one owes: landlord1 or landlord2: I checked on renting a house. landlord1 showed me the house. He said he had sold the property to someone else(landlord2). He showed me where man2 was. I talked signed lease & paid security deposit. Latter part of 2010 man1 came to house & told me he had the property back & I would be paying him the rent..ok..now I have moved into another house still renting from landlord1. I signed a lease & paid another security deposit. I asked landlord1 about the security deposit from the other house & he said by I had paid it to landlord2. The only thing he got back was the property....so landlord1 or landlord2 owes?.........

When ownership changes, the security deposit should be transfered to the buyer or person who receives the property. I do not know how this works in the case of a foreclosure. If the house was sold back to LL1, he should have your deposit. I'd recommend you find a different landlord since this crowd seems to not really have their stuff together.
