So if your pipes are clogged and you need them "snaked" apparantly city water does it for free. Maybe I'm the only one who didn't know this, but after paying a plumber $200 (and I've paid the same in the past) he told me to call 311 because they were hitting something in the pipe. When I called 311 they said "why are you paying a plumber to do that work, we do it for free."

Just wanted to get the word out if others didn't know this; simple way to save a couple large ones

Uhhh no...they don't do it for free. The city is required to move the blockage IF it is on their side of the meter. Think your logic through.

^ ^ ^Yes, only if they are absolutely CERTAIN it is on their side of the meter. Been there, done that. The city said they would NOT do a thing unless I had someone put a camera into the pipes and prove the blockage was THEIR problem, and not mine.

there's no meter on sewage, you're thinking of supply (water).

The city covers everything in the street or right-of-way, private parties are responsible for everything up to that point.

Any plumber or city plumber/employee will use the phrase "their side of the meter".

no, they won't if they're talking about sewer. the will if they're talking about supply. plumbers and professionals don't mix those two up, trust me.

and the mark for supply IS the meter. The line for sewerage is NOT a meter, cause there *isn't* a damn meter. The City will usually repair a problem if it requires removing a curb or digging up a street or if it is their main. Otherwise, the laterals (those are the lines that feed into the Utility-maintained lines from each point of service) are the responsibility of those who own them.

You have either this need/desire to argue or be right.
Having experience in working with plumbers (both service and construction) and on the wholesale side of the industry for the CoC, they do use that term....it is all about the KISS method.

While all of your drivel is to prove whatever picture of yourself you are trying to paint. The point is that plumbers and city employees are talking oft times to homeowners, in those cases you MUST KISS. You can try as you may to dance around it but facts are facts. While you may deal with the technical end, you obviously are not on the front lines dealing with the "real people".
