And that's really the gist of it, well said. I am the same thing (except my daughter is only 5)... I just ride a bike sometimes!

I'm sorry, but 6pm is still prime commuting time. I think after 7pm is probably better if you want to be out riding without the traffic.

What you seem to be missing is that some people on bikes are commuting to and from work too.

When they get off at 5 o'clock what would you propose they DO for two hours until the traffic dies down?

My response was to the individual who is training for an IronMan and cycling in South Charlotte. I don't think they are using the bike as a means to commute. There is still a lot of traffic in South Charlotte at 6pm because everyone left Charlotte at 5pm.

I'd like to see the law revised at a State level to ban the kind of riding I see on main thoroughfares and heavily congested roads. That is to say, riding 2+ deep, not in single file, acting like a stupid law on a piece of paper is going to keep them from being swiftly turned into a dark red greasy spot on the blacktop.

I do my best to be courteous and not come remotely close to hitting you guys, but a lot of you need to learn that a 2800lbs++ vehicle just cannot stop or maneuver the way a bicycle can, and it is unreasonable to expect me to lengthen my trip by slowing down just for you or risking a collision with another car to change lanes on the spot. It's not always the vehicle driver's fault if you find that back hatch, trunk lid or front bumper approaching much faster than you anticipated.

Remember that when kids are playing in a neighborhood street or crossing the road. Don't want anyone having to lengthen their trip home by a few seconds or anything.

Bicyclists should have to attend a safety training course. If the rules of the road apply to them, they should have to learn them.

Oh, I see what ya did there. You equated me not wanting my car trip, on county/city streets being made more lengthy, unsafe or more irritating than it already is, with being a blood thirsty monster that would run over kids or buzz by them for playing on a neighborhood, not county/city, street. I also like how you've completely passed over the fact that people, kids included, need to use crosswalks. If they don't, that's their life they threw away.

Everybody knows there's a difference between low-speed neighborhood residential streets and city/county roads. Everybody also knows it's retarded to compare hitting children playing in their neighborhood with expecting cyclists to recognize the facts about moving cars and follow their rules the same way as I follow mine.

Try again.

On same token motorist need to learn that share the road doesn't mean share the same lane without moving over.

Motorists have to get a license and take tests. Why shouldn't cyclists if they are both bound by the same rules?
