Uptown’s African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church adjacent to the Charlotte Convention Center will soon be leveled to make way for a $50 million, 230-room Embassy Suites hotel.
The nine-story hotel, which will include ground-floor retail and restaurant space, is being put together by BPR Properties of Greensboro in partnership with CMC Hotels in Raleigh. The joint venture closed on the land and building on Feb. 4 for $4 million, according to property records.
Hey, why didnt you add that to MY thread. lol.
But glad to hear about those great details! I am a lover of skylines, and I am excited that Charlotte's skyline is continuously growing, after much speculation that not much would be built in lue of the recession, for atleast 10 years.
I still would much rather then spur these mid-rise/high rise building OUTSIDE of 277, to give Charlotte a small Midtown-type of area. Maybe I am alone in this, but I think another sub-tall, business/hotel/etc area would be a great spur of growth in another part of Charlotte, even tho it would be extremely close to downtown.
Anywho, 485, can you say more details about these 4 skycrapers that you mentioned. Most importantly, the number of stories each would have, and the intersections of each one, if you are privy to that information.
Thanks!

Then we have Embassy Suites, Sky house, Childress Klein and the other low rises in uptown with Levine, 2 in gateway and fountains at stonewall.
Streetcar is UC and will be finished before ya know it. That will be interesting.
I'm so stoked to know the details about crescent!!!!
I don't know if any of these projects will exceed 20 stories, but it's great news, nonetheless. With more people staying Uptown. There will be a demand for stores, which, in turn, will make Uptown more vibrant.

If I had a dollar for every time one of us mentions that Uptown is ready for a major investment in retail, I'd get us all together, buy the parking lot next to the Presby Church on Trade and build a center city retail emporium that would make any US city proud...and, I'd bet we'd all do quite well as investors!
Until recently, downtown Los Angeles was a ghost town after business hours, with retail similar to Charlotte (serving the office community only).
