Hey all, I'm looking for a particular style of pizza and wondering if its available in Charlotte. Hopefully y'all can help me out.
Its a NY style, also known as Brooklyn style. Large slice, thin crust, but crispy, so it snaps when you fold it, versus the more common "floppy" crust.
Yes! Pie in the Sky in the Latta Arcade on Tryon St. has NY style and just what you are describing. Pretty cheap lunch, too. 2 slices and a drink for 5.50 I think it is.
There are several places to recommend, depending upon where in Charlotte you are:
Brooklyn South & Hawthornes NY Pizza are okay, to pretty good, depending on who the pizza maker is that day .
Next up is Libretto's. Sauce and cheese are very good, and slices fold nicely.
The closest representation, IMHO, is Luigi's in Steele Creek: they nailed the size, cheese, sauce, and crust. I prefer the Steele Creek location, to its cousin in Whitehall.

I wasn't a big fan of Luigi's although it does seem to be a popular answer to the very common "best pizza in Charlotte" question.
Hawthorne's is probably my favorite. I have no idea if it snaps when you fold it, I just know it tastes good to me.
But "NY Style" is probably the most common kind of pizza in Charlotte. But of course some places are better than others.
Thanks - "NY Style" is pretty overused and general, which is why I asked about the specifics - the key being the thin crust with some crispiness as the starting point, then on to sauce and ingredients.

Luigi's is the best I have had around Charlotte and the area.
