Hello all!

I am looking at relocating to the Lake Wylie area from Statesville. I've been commuting to the Clanton road exit for 2 years now for work and am very ready for a shorter drive. The apartment complex I am looking at is just over 15 miles to work down 49. Does anyone have any experience with this commute during rush hour? I am use to driving all highway so when the GPS tells me it will take 35 minutes to reach my destination, without traffic, I get a little concerned since it's only 15 miles. It seems like an easier drive than what I am doing now, along with much less miles on my car, but if it's still going to take me an hour to get home, I might as well stay where I am. Thanks for any advice!!

I would take Clanton to West blvd, which is HW160, and come in that way. 160 connects to 49 there at Rivergate Shopping center. That's how I came into work when I lived in Berewick.

I used to cover part of that route, though in the opposite direction: I worked in the Beam/S. Tryon area and lived near Rivergate. Between 4 - 6 pm it was usually faster (or as fast) to take 160 down to 49, rather than poking along S. Tryon (49). The worst area on 49 was between Arrowood and Westinghouse Blvd.

I used to commute from Lake Wylie (around where 274 intersects 49) to Uptown and I averaged 50 min leaving around 7:45am and leaving the office at 5pm. 49 generally moves slow until you get to around Steele Creek, and you have some the bottleneck with the 5 to 3 lane merger when getting on the 77.
