My entire family is coming down from Virginia to spend Thanksgiving with us and they want to go to the Thanksgiving Day Parade. We have lived in Mooresville for going on five years now and have never been since we usually go back to VA for the holiday.

How big and nice is the parade? I think my Mom is expecting a smaller version of the Macy's parade and while I know it will not even be close to that, I don't know what to expect. I don't want to get up really early and drag the family Uptown just to see a bunch of local business floats and a dozens of Girl Scout troops.

So, what is the parade like? Is it worth going?

I definitely think it's worth going!

Now, it's been a few years since I was able to go, but it's a really family friendly event and better than your average small town parade. Your guests would really enjoy it Check out the video footage from last years parade on this link:

We went down in 2012. It was fun to see once but we haven't been back. It was a lot of HS bands and local groups from around the area. If you go get there early to get a spot. It fills up and fast.

Good to know...when you say early, how early? It starts at 9:30, right? My husband has this grand idea that all of us are going uptown for this, 3 kids, one newborn, and us...see previous post on having a premade meal bought.

I think it's like the 4th or 5th largest thanksgiving parade in the country. This year will be my first time going

Probably Lynx Park & Ride Station will be the easiest. Look on the website for the park & Rides like Tyvola or Woodlawn. Uptown will have several street closures and such.

I'm familiar with CATS so I'm just gonna Park @ North Lake Mall And take the Airport Shuttle to the airport & Sprinter uptown. #7 goes from NorthLake to uptown but I'm not sure if that'll be crowded.

Does the express from NorthLake not run on Thanksgiving? They have a park and ride express bus usually that goes straight to the trans depot

Well we went and I was a bit disappointed. There were a whole bunch of high school bands and almost countless Hendrick BMWs in the parade. There were very few things worth standing in the cold for over two hours to see. Even something could have been entertaining turned out not to be. For instance, the Acrofitness group was there and they were pretty much doing nothing but walking. A flip or a cartwheel here and there was it. We were right next to one of the spots where the groups were supposedly stopping to perform. Again, pretty much nothing.

And by the way, we got there far earlier than necessary to get a good spot. The parade started at 9:30 and we got there a few minutes after 8 and there were almost no one there at that point. I think as long as we had gotten there about 30-45 minutes before starting time, we would have been fine. Most people really started filing in about 9 and after.
