I'm trying to make welcome bags for wedding guests staying in hotels. The theme of the bag is North Carolina... so items that started in NC. Any ideas of what should go in the bag?! Anything not related to NC that should go in welcome bags?

Here's what we have thought of so far:
- Lance Crackers
- Texas Pete
- Pepsi
- Cheerwine
- Krispy Kreme

Thanks!

I would be wary about putting Krispy Kreme in gift basket unless it made the day guest is in. Doughnuts need to be fresh. There is ton of micro brews, Carolina Blonde is a good choice or something from Childress Vineyard.

What a fun idea!! Add some wine from one of the local vineyards and a six pack from one of the local brewery's.

Some ideas that would work in a gift bag.

Moravian Sugar Cookies and Cheese Straws. Made by the Moravians in Winston Salem
Moravian Cookies

Wine from one of NC's many vineyards. I'm partial to the stuff made by the Waldensians in W. NC.
Generations of Valdese Wine-Making Tradition

Forget the stuff that comes from Virginia. It's better in NC.

Mt. Olive Pickles. Love the Okra Of course they have many other items as well.

Carolina Caviar. Otherwise known as Pimento Cheese. It requires refrigeration, but NC is home to many makers. Charlotte has Ruth Salads.
Pimento Cheese - Conrad & Hinkle Food Market - Lexington, NC - Great as a sandwich or on crackers and celery

North Carolina locals enjoy this very good fruitcake.
Southern Supreme Gourmet Specialties

This is all that I can think of at the moment.

Have you looked at local jewelry and artisan shops? Asheville and WNC have a thriving scene of hand-made, unique items; I think Winston Salem does as well. Local art (a small canvas, keychain, etc) for the men and a necklace pendant in the shape of the state, for women.

I did something similar for my wedding. If the two of you are not originally from NC, you could maybe also include some items from where you grew up.

Not sure how I feel about the Texas Pete one, as I'd bet a lot of people wouldn't realize it's from NC and I'm not sure how useful it'd be for a weekend.

We also ended up making a little packet with some information including times, locations and a map of the wedding events. Some recommendations for things to do and places to eat in their spare time could be helpful as well.
