Hello! My wife and I are looking for recommendations for communities in the areas south of Charlotte, Ballantyne, Matthews and other nice areas around there that have full community amenities, specifically a swimming pool in the community that is walkable, access to scenic walking areas in the community, and possibly tennis courts.

We are looking for a home in the range between $400-500K.

We would also like the community to feed into one of the better schools in the area - we have heard that high schools such as Myers Park or Adrey Kell, for example, are more desirable.

We are headed to Charlotte with our 3 young kids later this week and would like recommendations on what communities to focus our search on in those areas. Mecklenberg or Union Counties are both ok.

Thanks! Jeff

In Union, check out Hunter Oaks or Somerset (right side of the neighborhood falls in the $400+ price range). Marvin schools for both neighborhoods, some of the top schools in the state. Both neighborhoods have pools, tennis courts, walking trails, and tons of kids. Location in Union County means these neighborhoods are unlikely to ever be redistricted (right on county line).

An option that exists is to join a swim and tennis club depending on where you opt to live. This strategy will open up a lot of really nice mid size to smaller neighborhoods in your price range you may overlook otherwise. Plus the swim and tennis clubs offer a lot of activities for children (swim teams, tennis clinics, swim classes and camps etc.).

I live in Hunter Oaks and it has everything you are looking for (as does Somerset). Marvin Ridge schools are some of the best in the state and Hunter Oaks has tons of kids. The neighborhood has two pools (including a swim team), tennis courts, playgrounds, walking trails, and a great community vibe.

Brookhaven in Matthews (Union County) and Weddington Schools, can walk to elementary school (Antioch). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJxvh7gKyZI
Has 2nd largest pool in Union County with water slide, lazy river, tennis courts, basketball court, walking trails.. Neighborhood swim team. Has very active tennis program with many women's teams and a couple men's teams. The expansive clubhouse has many socials and the workout facility is on the first floor. Most of the children are middle school and younger in the neighborhood. Home values seem to do well and homes seem to sell fairly quick.
An option is joining Weddington Swim & Tennis Club which is 1/2 mile away for higher level tennis, swim team. Probably one of lower member dues in town and top level tennis, swim team.

Brookhaven is also next to Colonel Francis Beatty Park. It has some nice trails for walking / mountain bikes, small lake, soccer fields, basket ball hoops etc.

The Reserve is in that price range. I don't live there so I'm not sure the amenities, but it's a nice neighborhood in Marvin schools.

These type developments are all over that area. Just pick one, they all are pretty much the same house over and over and over.
