I am moving next Friday from NYC to Charlotte. I will be driving a U-Haul box truck with a trailer. I plan to leave around 6pm. I don't want to add the truck to my EZ pass. What route would you guys suggest that doesn't use tolls or if there is a tow i would need them to have an operator so I can pay cash?

78 to 81 to 77. If I remember correctly I don't believe there are any tolls past NY, although not that familiar with the last North Jersey portion of 78. Also less traffic than taking 95, just lots of tractor trailers.

Although if it matters, I haven't done it in a uhaul but I've never had an issue using my own EZpass in a rental car.

If you take the insurance offered by uhaul, just call the 800 number provided and they will arrange the tow or repair at no cost to you.
