Seems everyday someone else posts about coming to Charlotte to look for a job... perhaps today's AP story will help them know it might not be such a great idea:

"In Michigan and elsewhere, the unemployment rate is just the tip of the iceberg of the extensive adverse impact of this 'Great Recession,'" said economist Lawrence Mishel, president of the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute. Many workers have seen hours trimmed, their pay cut and have lost benefits. Combine that with a dismal housing market making it difficult for people to sell their homes and move to other places to find work, some jobseekers are trapped.
The best thing to do - if people feel their most viable strategy is to leave their present location - is to choose a state/city that is not experiencing a high unemployment rate. I know folks have posted that they feel it will be less expensive to live here (make their money go further) but it seems counterintuitive to go some place just b/c it is less expensive . . . when the chances of getting a job are even worse than where they are living now.
I'd say regardless of the city, don't move to a location unless you have a job waiting on you there. The exception being you have about 6 months to a year's rent saved up, or you can crash with a friend or relative.

I think this is a great post and good info - but watch out, you'll be accused of being "negative" and "unwelcoming"
Rhode Island is a disgrace and should be cut off into the Atlantic Ocean. Ruining New England's record of being the only place on the planet worth living. At least my state generally gets lumped in with New York and New Jersey anyway. I suppose this is because we are known for our cheery and welcoming attitudes! Are any of those states on the list really a surprise? Maybe Nevada would surprise me because their tax structure is so good, but all their unemployment is probably tourism based. Interesting, yet depressing stuff.
