Our son is looking at a soccer scholarship at UNC Charlotte with the 49ers as an option

Has anyone else experience of this?

If so, what is the Uni like to live in/ what is the soccer scholarship like? What is Charlotte like as a city in which to live as a student?

Appreciate this is a very general question but any advice/ help much appreciated

Thanks

Have no knowledge of anything sports related, however the campus is one of the nicest around. There is plenty to do in Charlotte for a college student.

That's a pretty specific question for a forum like this, especially if you want to find out about soccer in particular.

What other schools is he considering? Charlotte of course is a city, so not your typical "college town," which can be good or bad depending on what you're looking for. UNCC has had a reputation as a commuter school but is trying to shed that, and they have been making many additions to the campus. The University area, despite being close to uptown (with a light rail line going in) is actually fairly suburban. You might get some comments on here about crime, but you'll find that at many other colleges as well.

I'd say a scholarship for men's soccer at Charlotte is quite an achievement. One of the better programs in southeast. They compete for conference championships every season and have made much noise in the NCAA national tournament including the finals in 2011.

yes. that's the feedback we've had. also looking at florida tech but the soccer at charlotte seems of a higher standard. ultimate goal is the MLS draft so the sport is more important than the location. florida's beach based campus is 'sexier' but charlotte seems much more logical. the initial research we've done points to charlotte hence the request for feedback on what it's like to live in and around the city for a student

thanks to all for input so far
