We are relocating from a suburb of NYC to south charlotte and would like to make as smooth transition as possible. We can't go somewhere remote and wooded because we're just not used to that. Which subdivision is considered nicer, more child friendly and not very remote, Cady Lake, Hunter Oaks, Somerset or Weston Glen?

We are looking for a home minimum 3000 sq ft. in the 300K-400K range with amenities.

If anyone can offer some advice, it would greatly be appreciated. If anyone can also offer any specific information on any of these subdivisions such as info about the community from any personal experiences, it would be great.

Have a great day.

What do you consider remote?

I would suggest Whitby Pond (www.whitbypond.com) Great homes, nice community, but very little lots. You might also like some of the older more established homes in the Cotswald area would fit in this price range and the sq. footage should be close. 7 min. to uptown from that area. Lansdowne is another great area, again these are older homes (most have been renovated)and are located in more est. neighborhoods with nice lawns, trees.
Providence Plantation is great, however I think you may consider that a little too far outside of Charlotte. Staying in your price range and sq. footage will be a challange in the areas closest to the city, unless you're interested in a townome

That much square footage in that price range WITH ammenities will be difficult to find in new construction closer into the city. I would personally recommend you consider finding a home in an established area (which will be closer in and not so "remote" ) with that square footage and then plan to join the YMCA for "amenities" if the neighborhood you pick doesn't offer them - many people do this. I have sent you a direct message with some links to older homes close in that meet your criteria for square footage and for not being remote.

The neighborhoods you mentioned above are all really in the same general location. I guess the closest one in would be Cady Lake, but really, we are only talking about a mile or two difference from the others. These would only be considered "remote" because of their distance to uptown Charlotte, but they are not way out in the middle of nowhere or anything. Charlotte is a very scenic city. Many parts still have a rural feel to them though you are in the middle of the city. Therefore, you will most likely have many trees and greenery around you no matter where you live.

Are you looking to buy in the next few months or just looking at where to potentially buy later down the road?

We also moved from NY suburbs (in 1998) -- we lived in south Charlotte when we first moved (back in 1998) and now in Union County (Hunter Oaks). I think any of those neighborhoods would be great. Remember that in Somerset and Hunter Oaks your taxes would be lower. Hunter Oaks has great amenities and is a larger neighborhood than any of the others. I agree with Loves, that these neighborhoods are all very close to one another. Weston Glen seems to have homes closer together than some of the others, but of course it depends on the exact lot of the home you are considering. I would look at the homes in these communities to see what feels right to you, and again consider which particular lot works best for you.
