FYI for anyone who commutes on Lawyers Road in Indian Trail, especially getting to 485, they have installed a FOUR-WAY STOP at Mill Grove Road. Traffic was backed up from the new stop sign all the way back to 485 (and halfway to Rocky River Rd from the opposite direction), and I got through before the worst of rush hour started. I had thought they were installing a stop light, and that would have been one thing, but this is going to make Lawyers Road a nightmare. We're stuck with it until 2020.

FYI they are ripping up the stop signs right now.

There needs to be an investigation into why they did that nonsense to begin with...it reeks of cronyism. I've driven down that road on my way to work for 5 years, and not once can I recall any type of traffic study being done prior to installing those stop signs.

This was a total waste of taxpayer dollars, and someone needs to be held accountable.

Over stop signs? Some civil engineer thought in their head it would be a good idea, and convinced others it would work. Well it didn't, take them out and move on with life.

Or yell cronyism, and run around with pitch forks, perhaps one of the installers was was a distant cousin of city employee, then nepotism could be thrown in too.

No traffic light, a roundabout is planned.

https://apps.ncdot.gov/NewsReleases/...s.aspx?r=13716

CHARLOTTE – The intersection of Lawyers Road and Mill Grove Road in Indian Trail will be converted to an all-way stop later this month. The intersection currently requires traffic on Mill Grove Road to stop, but motorists on Lawyers Road do not have to stop.
Weather permitting, the switch will take place on Tuesday, April 18. The project includes installing stop signs on both sides of Lawyers Road, in addition to new pavement markings on both roads to alert motorists to the new traffic pattern.

NCDOT will place electronic message boards on both sides of Lawyers Road approaching the intersection the week before the changes take effect.

The department is implementing these measures as interim improvements, as a roundabout is proposed for this intersection, currently scheduled for construction in 2020.

Drivers approaching a four-way stop should follow these right of way rules:

• The first vehicle to the intersection has the right of way ahead of any vehicle that has not yet arrived;
• When two or more vehicles reach an intersection at the same time, the vehicle to the right has the right of way;
• The vehicle with the right of way may move straight ahead or, if legal and after signaling, turn left or right;
• When two facing vehicles approach an intersection at the same time, both drivers can move straight ahead or turn right. If one driver is going straight while the other wants to turn left, the driver who wants to turn left must yield. The driver who is traveling straight ahead has the right of way; and
• Even with the right of way, remember to use the appropriate turn signals and be careful to avoid hitting other vehicles and/or pedestrians.

And then...

https://apps.ncdot.gov/NewsReleases/...s.aspx?r=13743

CHARLOTTE – Crews will be removing stop signs on Lawyers Road at Mill Grove Road in Indian Trail today, April 21.

The signs were creating longer backups than anticipated and will be removed by the end of the day. NCDOT will continue to evaluate the intersection, which is proposed for a roundabout in 2020.

Motorists should remain alert and use caution approaching the intersection.
