I'm looking for a relatively moderate church in Charlotte..a church that believes in the core principles but is more open-minded, won't look down on me or tell me I'm going to hell if I like to drink a beer every now and then...I may be being picky but I prefer a larger church (more opportunities), have typically gone to methodist churches in the past but am open to others, and I prefer a blended or more contemporary style of worship....

I've done some research on the web, but figure I'll have better luck with personal recommendations than church websites...Thanks in advance...

Check out Forest Hill Church on Park Rd, its a big church but the Preacher David Chadwick is an awesome preacher it has that contemporary feel to it, wonderful music band, and coffee is served as well to keep everyone awake which isn't need because David is such a great preacher ! Im 26 yrs old and left my parents church because it bored the heck out of me, now I am loving church and cant wait to go next sunday !! How many 26 yr old guys would be saying the same thing about CHURCH !! The sermons are related to todays issues etc. There are also real testimonies given which at times bring tears to my eyes ! PLEASE give it a try you definitely will like it there ! I go by myself on sundays and don't mind it one bit. Goodluck in your search !!! Oh and peopla can wear whatever they want, jeans etc. no one judges only God !

Happy Easter mrmannc

While there are several churches around that will meet your criteria (I don't actually know of any that would tell you you are going to hell for drinking a beer every now and then!) my best recommendation is that you check out Forest Hills. This is a very dynamic large church with many fantastic opportunities to meet others and worship in a contemporary style. They are located on Park Rd near South Park. Best of luck!

Happy Easter!
The day we celebrate our risen Lord!

Many churches fit your criteria.
What side of town are you interested in or does that matter?
Casual dress or coat & tie environment?

Regarding the beer thing, I think only a hardline fundamentalist would have such a 'holier than thou' attitude.
The New Testament just says a Christian should be filled with the Spirit and not filled with wine.
So moderation is the key. Paul says everything is permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial.
Let me ad that I grew up at a very large (in the 70s) fundamental church in town.
Drinking was taboo but I never heard a sermon about over-eating, and there were plenty of people in the pews that needed a sermon on gluttony!

Personally, I think there is something so delicious about a draft beer - the Waldhorn is a favorite destination of ours!

This may be way too moderate for you, but, my wife dragged me to Warehouse 242 this weekend and I actually liked it. Its in a warehouse, has an alternative/rock band playing, and lots of young, cool people in jeans, sandles, etc. coming together to worship. The sermen was short but I actually took more out of it then any other sermen I have heard in the different, more "traditional" churches I have been to.

Try out Cornerstone Church in Wilkesboro. It is a little bit of a drive but it is an awesome church. Their services are Sunday at 10 and Wednesday at 7pm. Everyone there is human
