Just read this in CityLab about West Charlotte High School. I know several folks who went there and had a really stellar educational and social experience. It's a really thought-provoking read.

Thanks for sharing. I'm a 2002 graduate and had a front row seat for the re-segregation phase. It was sad and frustrating to watch.

That said I wouldn't trade my experience for anything and felt prepared for success in college thanks to West Charlotte.

Outside of the curriculum, I wish I could share the social and civic benefits of attending a school with such a diverse student body with others as I believe perspective and empathy are critical values for our community to improve on some of the most pressing challenges of today.

Mallard Creek is probably the closest to what West Charlotte was & this is being done without busing because the area feeding into Mallard Creek is diverse

There you have it, most, regardless of color would expect EDUCATION as a priority in a school system.

Yes there are quite a few “segregated” schools in CMS on both sides of the spectrum, but there are also quite a few other fairly diverse schools IMO that when looking at test scores are at least above average last time I checked. Such as South Meck, Myers Park, Butler, East Meck, Independence, Olympic.
