My husband and I want to move out of California. I was in the Marines and spent 10+ years in Jacksonville. Although there is not where I'd like to move, I LOVE North Carolina. Only things are: 1. Finding an IT job for my hubby. 2. Where in N.C. are the mosquitos as bad as Camp Lejeune? We were thinking Western N.C. I respect any help and polite comments y'all may have.

The Raleigh/Durham area is the best place in NC for IT jobs, although there are a lot of them in Charlotte, and a fair amount in The Greensboro/Winston-Salem area as well. Mosquitoes are everywhere, pretty much, but certainly worse in parts of eastern NC.
The Raleigh/Durham area would be your best bet for IT job. The Research Triangle Park is one of the best high tech hubs in the nation. There are IT opportunities in the Charlotte area, but RDU would be the place to try first. Good luck in your search.
RDU is a major IT area, but Charlotte is lots larger and jobs are plentiful. I would include Charlotte in your mailing out of resumes if you are doing that. In western N.C., you have Asheville and a few smaller places. Asheville is very nice, but I am not sure about the job opportunities. I live north of Charlotte and mosquitoes are not a real problem. If there are any around, they are found in little bodies of water that have collected in things like tires, etc. Easy to control. I believe that Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham, or Winston Salem would all be good choices.
The cities in NC have less mosquitos I presume due to car exhaust not being to their liking.
But once you are far enough outside metro areas that your ears ring from the silence of no roaring traffic you will be eaten alive.
Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle doesn't have that bad of a mosquito problem due to the onshore flow, but when it reverses occasionally they are pulled from inland and bite a lot.
So Jacksonville doesn't ever get the benefit of the ocean regarding mosquitos or anything else for that matter?

Exhaust has nothing to do with it. I was recently in Amsterdam and was eaten alive at night in central city in my room. There was plenty of exhaust. There is a potential for mosquitoes anywhere fresh water sits. I have a pond an purchased mosquito fish. They are about the size of guppies, just a bit larger. I bought 50 and didn't think they would survive last summer. They did, and now the pond has millions of little mosquito fish and practically no mosquitoes around unless, as I said before, eggs are hatched in water collections around the house.
