These couldn't be more different storms.

If they caused damage, it really doesn't matter how different they are.

I’d say a storm that causes 1,000 power outages is different than a storm that causes 1,000,000.

My impulse in posting was not that Florence would be like Hugo (although at the time I posted on the 10th that was less clear) but that even though Charlotte is 170 miles from the coast hurricanes can sometimes have big impacts on Charlotte and folks would do well to pay attention to this one.

As far as Florence compared to Hugo as hurricanes go they really aren't much alike because Florence is sooooo sloooooow while Hugo just barreled in. Florence is just creeping along and dumping tons and tons of rain on eastern NC, but they say Charlotte could get another 6-8-10 inches before this is over which is enough to cause creeks and streams to flood. So keep your eyes on flood prone areas. Looks like maybe by Wednesday we'll see the sun again.

Since Florence weakened to Category 1 before even making landfall it's not even close. When it was still predicted to be Cat 4 or 5 at landfall, now that was the storm of a lifetime that hasn't been seen in over 50 years. What it is now is just a big rain maker. Bad, but nothing catastrophic.

yes, for sure!

But tell that to one of those that lost power in both. No diff.

You know people don't care about the big picture anymore, it's all about ME!

Hope everyone is "staying safe" in this Storm of Biblical Proportions (taken from a recent news headline regarding this storm).

I feel for those who truly were affected, but it's no wonder many of us, including myself, don't find the media to have much credibility anymore.

Dang, y'all, think about some other North Carolinians and South Carolinians too!! Just because so far Charlotte is not as badly effected as the eastern part of the state does not mean it's not a catastrophic storm!

Quote:
Preliminary reports from the National Weather Service say that as of noon on Saturday, over 30 inches of rain has fallen in Swansboro, N.C. Florence's 30 inches of rainfall has broken the statewide rainfall record set by Hurricane Floyd in 1999 of 24.06 inches.
Be thankful it didn't hit you hard! And there is flooding in low lying areas of Charlotte now too, so take care if you're out and about.
