There are a smattering of Asian grocers in Charlotte, in addition to plenty of Chinese, Indian, and Middle Eastern fare; the area also sports thriving Eastern European markets. Charlotte also celebrates Black owned businesses, and culture.

Yet White boy thought the area to be lacking in diversity.

If anything, my only major disappointment with the area - especially when compared to smaller Greenville SC - is the lack of inexpensive Italian fare/bakeries/markets.

As for the cost comparison, again, I disagree with his analysis: surely electric and natural gas are cheaper in the Carolina's, as is auto and homeowners insurance.
I agree wtih you 100 percent. I will keep it short and say that he is exactly what we prey we don't get from many western liberal states and a few others. If people weren't so stupid, they would look at demographic data and other factors before moving here and being crying, annoying, perpetual outsiders. From what I have seen, his "diverse" areas in much of Calif. don't necessarily want people that look like him around anyway. I believe it goes farther than what is mentioned. If they claim that housing cost are comparable with those in N.C., they are really out in LaLa land. I believe they would like Washington, D.C. Bless their hearts!

Thread got my attention as I've lived in CA and CLT (7yrs). Liked both.

What interests me is that the couple decided to return to CA versus exploring other options. They were very clear about their reasons for leaving CA including lots of stress and pressure, very crowded, very expensive, working lots of hours and not getting to enjoy their lives, and terrible traffic. CLT and Riverside are not the only two places in the country to live.

Good point... maybe they could have considered Denver, Austin, or even Phoenix (great place if can survive June, July, and August).

Well, yes. Every state in the Union has areas that are more conservative than Charlotte. But these areas don't dominate statewide politics the way the rural areas of NC do.

How do rural areas dominate statewide politics? Please be explain. I'm not arguing the point, just asking for more info.

I live in rural North Carolina and I'm wondering the same thing.

I didn't even read the entire link because it started out with a contradiction. The couple complained about working too much in California to financially sustain their lifestyle, but then they complained about making less money in Charlotte. The harsh truth is that this couple would need to work hard in most markets that aren't rural. Also, the wife is a hospice nurse and she's probably a lazy one. I say this because my wife is a physician assistant. Although the physician assistants are typically on a higher pay grade than a nurse, the same holds true for both; if you hustle you can make a lot more than the average. My wife earn slightly over $200,000 a year because she doesn't have a problem taking travel contracts in places like Jefferson North Carolina and Clinton North Carolina from time to time. When it comes to medicine, the hustlers are never complaining. I've seen my wife take day shifts on major holidays like Christmas that paid out over $2,000 in one day!!!

So here's the deal with this couple; they wanted to stay in California before they ever left and they don't have the same work ethic that many of the successful people in America have. And if that's who California attracts, then I see why that state is economically swirling deeper into the toilet bowl....

Just 2 days ago I commented to my husband that the county park we go to near our home is really nice and that we see so many different kinds of people there, more than any place we ever lived. We moved to Charlotte end of 2019 (yeah just in time for Covid to arrive) and were very glad to be here instead of Florida.

We bought our home for little over $300k and thought it was a good buy (still do--love our home and neighborhood). Our neighborhood is fairly diverse, in skin color, in ethnicity, various ages, some are long time locals and others moved here because family was in Charlotte (like us).

That article was just 2 people who came and didn't like Charlotte and left. There are thousands of people like us who are exactly opposite. We'll be here till we die because we're retired lol. I loved California when we visited 20+ years ago. If we had any family in California we'd have considered moving there but nope.
