Interesting read. I left Southern CA a few years ago and you couldn't pay me to go back, lol. But I guess everyone has their own reasons:

Frankly, I think diversity is overrated and too much diversity in a region reduces the quality of life, in my opinion.

I think that diversity can be a great thing, but it helps if one can pick and choose who is "included."

I'm thinking they might want to try Maryland or New Jersey - the same beautiful seasonal change but with higher salaries and (generally speaking) more open minds.

Organic diversity can be desirable, but diversity for diversity sake is definitely overrated.

Will: In the uptown area of Charlotte around NoDa and the trendy areas by the college, it seems very diverse and the people seem very friendly.
The above threw me because I actually find the inverse to be true. I see nothing but mostly white people in South End, Dilworth, and NoDa. Doing Amazon Flex out in Gastonia, that has quite a mix of Latinos, Blacks, and Whites. South Blvd South of Clanton Rd is a very noticeable Latino population with many Blacks mixed in. East Charlotte is pretty much a whole mixed bag. Yes, Charlotte can be somewhat segregated but I don’t think the story’s subjects got out too much to come to that conclusion.

I’ve been out to CA a good half dozen times since 2020 and while I get the draw, I don’t see how having a life out there is feasible economically.

To me, diversity only consists of two groups of people. Group one includes good people that are good neighbors, and group two includes *******s. They are slobs, inconsiderate of others, and have free range children from hell. Unfortunately, you will find group two practically everywhere, but they tend to be only permanent residents.

This article irritated me: clearly, those being interviewed, in my view, had issues.

There are a smattering of Asian grocers in Charlotte, in addition to plenty of Chinese, Indian, and Middle Eastern fare; the area also sports thriving Eastern European markets. Charlotte also celebrates Black owned businesses, and culture.

Yet White boy thought the area to be lacking in diversity.

If anything, my only major disappointment with the area - especially when compared to smaller Greenville SC - is the lack of inexpensive Italian fare/bakeries/markets.

As for the cost comparison, again, I disagree with his analysis: surely electric and natural gas are cheaper in the Carolina's, as is auto and homeowners insurance.

Charlotte is actually more progressive than many areas in NJ.
