Hello everyone! My husband just accepted a job in Statesville. He will be moving there at the end of the month, but my three teenagers (two who have graduated HS and one daughter who is currently a sophomore) will be moving up there after we sell our current house and after the school year ends (so sometime in June). We are looking to move to an area between Charlotte and Statesville along the 77 corridor that has a high school with high academics for our daughter. She has aspirations of attending the University of Georgia and knows that she needs good grades in rigorous/high-level classes to have a chance of getting into UGA. What high schools do you recommend we consider? We were thinking of the Mooresville area in the Lake Norman High School district, but that is because it was a recommendation by an acquaintance. I'd love the opinion of those in this forum who are more intimately knowledgeable about schools in the northern 77 corridor between Charlotte and Statesvile. Thank you for any and all feedback you all have to provide!
You want to live in the Lake Norman High School boundaries or William Amos Hough boundaries on the CMS / Mecklenburg side (Cornelius and Davison). Those are really your best options and great areas with good schools.

Thank you, CLT4! What are your thoughts about Bandys High School?
I had a child graduate from Lake Norman High. I shouldn’t say “ graduate” as it was Covid time and there wasn’t a graduation . Unlike other schools who came up w interesting Covid -friendly plans , the administrators and faculty did nothing. That was the story all four years. They were completely unmotivated about everything -prom, award ceremonies, sporting events, dances, etc. No school spirit whatsoever. The school is HUGE and maybe something gets lost when it gets that big? Traffic to and from school is also terrible. Don’t let the school web site fool you. It is closely monitored. If anything negative is posted, it is immediately removed. If I had to do it over again, I would have chosen differently.

Thank you for your feedback, Leopard2. What high school on the north side in the 77 corridor between Charlotte and Statesville would you recommend if you had to do it all over again?
We experienced Lake Norman Christian (which is now in Huntersville) and Davidson Day School. Lake Norman Christian is a very small, homey, Christian School. It worked well for us during middle school years, but many outgrow the school for high school years. Davidson Day was a pretty good school. Small class size, good teachers for the most part, good college planning. It did lack in support for its students both from the "Learning Center" and counseling department. It runs about 21K per year. They have been struggling to keep a head of school. Most don't last more than a couple years. I'm not sure why. Some people in the Lake Norman area send their kids about an hr. away to Cannon School. It's private, very academic and quite pricey. It does offer busing. Haven't heard much in the way of good or bad on that one. The Community School of Davidson is the school most people try to get their kids into. It's a lottery system to get in and they have hundreds more applicants than they have space. We tried and failed a couple times. I've heard only good things about that school. There are a few others, but I really don't know much about them. I have not heard anyone say they actually like their school, which is sad. I guess that's just the state of education. Sorry, I didn't actually answer your question. Of the options we had available a the time, I think I would have gone with Davidson Day for my eldest.
