I'm moving to Charlotte in less than two weeks and I need help finding an apartment in a safe area. Please help me if you can.
PLEASE help us with your price range and what area of town you will be working in. Charlotte is very spread out and you would not want to drive all the way across town in traffic if you don't have to(especially with high gas prices). THANKS!

I would perfer a 2 bedroom townhouse but a large one bedroom or two bedroom apartment would be acceptable as well.

Do you have a job as most landlords are asking for proof of employment now.
Just FYI...I used to work at UNC Charlotte and the University area has really taken a turn for the worse in the last 2 years. I moved here alone 8 years ago as a single woman to work at the University and I was so glad not to have rented there. Southpark is good, safe, near great malls...but if you want to meet other single folks I would recommend Elizabeth, Plaza Midwood, or Dilworth for renting. This would put you in the historic neighborhoods of downtown (uptown/whatever) Charlotte and there are a lot of young people and single professionals/artists/musicians/etc. I would have not made it on my own if I had moved first to the suburbs because I think it would have been really hard to make friends/meet people as a single person. A two bedroom townhouse in that price range will not be in a safe part of town. It will most certainly not be around South Park. Even a one bedroom at that price will most likely not be in a great area either.

You can get a 1 or 2 bedroom condo in the $700-$800 range in Selwyn Village, which is in the SouthPark/Myers Park area. They are old and small, but you can't beat the location. Not sure of your age, but a lot of young professionals live there.
I lived in a lesser-known small apartment complex named Queens Arms several years ago. It is located on Queens Road in the shadow of beautiful Myers Park homes and close to all that Elizabeth, Dilworth and uptown have to offer. I think I was paying $550/month at the time for a 1 bedroom place. They're not luxury apartments, but the location was great.
