Thank you for the very timely and appropriate quote, Mullman. And the statement is oh so true.
Our Republic came into being b/c of a GRASSROOTS movement! People put their lives, their fortunes on the line b/c they believed that they deserved the right to govern themselves. The commitment to self-governance was hammered out over years and w/ fervor and great sacrifice. It is easy to lose sight of that. We are a huge nation w/ so many different needs and concerns w/in our different states. Forming a Republic under one flag was challenging back in 1776 . . . for us today, w/ states having very differing interests . . . it is so important to remember why we came together in an attempt to "form a more perfect Union."
Those principles have to remain in the forefront in order for this Republic we love to stay strong and viable.
