It blows my mind that it'll be another 10 years before the last 5 miles of 485 gets completed. I understand that everyone has to take their turns...but how about finishing a road before you move onto the next one?
Someone needs to step in and change the way DOT money is handled in this state, i can guarantee that it wont be the new governor.
I also emailed Tony Rand complaining to him about this. I would also contact your state senator and complain about it...this is out of hand

See, I don't think that everyone has to or needs to take turns. I think that roads should be constructed based on demand - both real (current) and projected. Rand is just trying to lobby to get a beltway around Fayetteville. Well guess what? That's about the dumbest idea in the history of ever. Fville doesn't need a beltway. Charlotte needs a beltway, and it also needs the south section widened to accomodate residents.
I do agree with you that someone needs to step up and do something about Rand's nonsense, though.
The formula they are using is outdated and allows NCDOT to dole out favors to cronies more easily. It is also a way to make those in the populated areas pay for roads in not-so-populated areas. A very socialist way of doing things.
They need complete overhaul of NCDOT and the people who run it. We had a great shot at that happening, had McCrory been elected. Unfortunately, Charlotte voters can't seem to get that into their thick heads and decided it was more in their best interested to vote for the current president-elect and any coattail riders that comes with him (i.e the now gov-elect). Dumb move.
LOL!! Well, thank you MV, for your always kind and tolerant words!!!
I feel others can express our collective opinions better than I can on this one (b/c I know we all feel the same way - this STINKS). I get sooooo upset about the Good Ole Boy system and how the legislators from the eastern part of this state run everything, b/c they have seniority . . . and so my rant is going to get political and I would be likely to go back 40 years and enumerate all the battles in the western part of the state w/ both the General Assembly leadership and the DOT (and county DOT officials, as well). So that would not be productive.
Catamount was level headed and gave us the info we need to do the only thing we can - write and call about this ridiculous situation. Reps to Catamount for sharing that info!!!!
Maybe if I get my head together later . . . but for now . . . we really do need to pass the word to write letters and emails and ask the media to get involved, as well. IndianTrailDude and I are in agreement that this croneyism has to STOP - we are in the 21st C now and these self-serving legislators are holding back progress. Plus I know for a fact there is a lot of hanky panky that has occurred in this state w/ favoritism, payoffs to contractors and politicians . . . and so . . . if we don't all stand up and make a ruckus, this crap is gonna continue and that is just not right for the citizens of this great state.
And it sure as hell ain't fair to Charlotte and surrounding region, which, IN CASE THAT JACKA$$ RAND HAS FORGOTTEN, is the largest city in this state and also the biggest tax revenue contributor.

Entirely agree. The DEMS in the eastern part of the state have the rest of the legislators by the kahunas and IT IS ALL POLITICS at work!!! I don't know how to get the message across . . . as long as those guys stay in power in the eastern half of this state, we are gonna get SCREWED here. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. And this road situation is but ONE EXAMPLE.
