We are a young couple with 17th months old baby considering to move to NC from NYC. Of course we have tons of questions:
- Which are the best town within the area?
- How is newton?
- We looking for a family friendly area?
- Should we rent for the first year or should we buy? Althought money is limited
- Jobs: we are experienced in the Hotel and Nursing home industries

Any comments/suggestions are much appreciated.

crisolinac, most of NC is very family friendly However, your problem will be getting jobs. Our umemployment rate is currently one of the highest in the nation and there is a lot of competition for jobs. Newton is a nice, very small, town. I really can't imagine you'd have too much luck with jobs there. Your best bets are to consider looking for jobs FIRST, in one of the larger metro areas - those are Charlotte, Raleigh, Asheville or Wilmington. Once you find jobs you could plan to live in a smaller community outside whichever city you go to. Best of luck to you!

I would check out nursing homes and see if you can land a job you like (or find out if they have openings) and then get situated w/in easy driving distance of the nursing homes. What side of nursing home care are you in - nursing, administrator, marketing, activities director, dietitian, OT? Be sure to check on any applicable licensure requirements b/f you make the move so you will be ready to go when you get here.

Here are some nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Catawba County, where Newton is located:

Brian Center has several locations

Lutheran Homes have two locations

Abernethy Center

and there are other rehab/nursing facilities w/ ties to hospital

Here is one database:
