$200M mixed-use project planned for south Charlotte
As many as 180 single-family homes and town houses and 375 upscale apartments are expected.
An upscale grocery store would anchor as much as 250,000 square feet of retail space. An additional 90,000 square feet is planned as restaurant and shop space.
Two office buildings, as tall as six stories each, are planned, as are two medical office buildings totaling 60,000 square feet. Parking decks are planned, as well.
The property, at the intersection of Providence and Ardrey Kell roads, is referred to by the developers as “Matthews Family Farm” and has various family member owners. It is outside the city’s limits, falling into what’s known as its extraterritorial jurisdiction. $200M mixed-use project planned for south Charlotte | CharlotteObserver.com
Thi sis both good and bad ! Good for land owners and proerty prices.. Bad for traffic!!!
Coming from Buffalo NY, everytime we flew into town, we found it interesting when we approached the area, as any green quickly disappeared, and we were met with nothing but developed land with not much green in between. The times we've flown into Charlotte, we made a point to notice how much nicer it was flying in, as there was far more green space. Seems like the city is doing their best to stop that from happening.
There is already a Harris Teeter anchoing that area? Right next to the gas station/Wendys? Then right across 485 not even 1 mile down Providence is pretty much everything described in this project, along with another Harris Teeter, Lowes, Home Depot etc most of which is somewhat vacant outside of the weekends.......wow..does anyone even pay attention/zone out there anymore?? lol
Omigosh the parking kills me over there in the Piper Glen TJ. I go there only during the day during the week. Forget weekends unless hubby or friends are driving. (I hate to drive lol)
Why not drop a huge farmers market here versus another commercial grocery store??
