I can fully understand the
principle behind wanting 485 finished first. It's a slap in the face that it hasn't been. But I have to raise the question, and don't revoke my Charlotte citizenship for this, what is the incomplete 485 actually holding up? To put it another way, is there anyone who is chomping at the bit waiting to use that last 1/8th of the circle? I know the city
looks ridiculous in Google Maps with an incomplete up-side-down horseshoe surrounding us, but wouldn't we want to fix the problems that are causing major tie-ups every day before we finish something just to say "it's finished?" Who drives that little route on a daily basis? There's absolutely no way that there are more cars waiting to drive that piece than there are cars who sit idling between I-77 and Providence on 485 during rush hour--hell, even
regular hour sometimes!
Again, don't get me wrong. If I were gov'nah for a day, I'd give us all the money needed to finish the thing, but I'd also be very concerned with upgrading undersized infrastructure.
